World-renowned chef Eric Adjepong is set to unveil his culinary masterpiece, Elmina, a premium West African-inspired restaurant in Washington, D.C., this January 2025. Adjepong, known for his appearances on popular cooking shows and his authoring of books celebrating Ghanaian culinary culture, is now ready to fulfill a lifelong ambition of opening his own establishment. The restaurant draws its inspiration from the richness of West African flavors and ingredients, promising a dining experience unlike any other.

Elmina will occupy a former office space previously known as Seven Reasons, and Adjepong aims to combine innovative culinary techniques with traditional West African dishes. Patrons can expect to enjoy modern takes on classics like grilled tempura and West African broths served ceremoniously to respect cultural traditions. The menu will notably feature “jollof rice,” a dish deemed indispensable by many from the region.

A vibrant menu of beverages also awaits, crafted with distinctive regional ingredients such as palm wine and indigenous fruits like lychee and baobab. Adjepong’s ambition extends beyond the kitchen, aiming to recreate the essence of an evening in Accra, Ghana, within the restaurant’s atmosphere. Decor elements are meticulously planned, including accents representing Ghana’s vibrant culture, such as golden highlights to symbolize prosperity and the term “Elmina,” meaning “gold mine.”

Adjepong’s goal is clear: to celebrate the diverse cuisine, culture, and music of West Africa, transforming Elmina into a true treasure of culinary art.
